4RM HDB APARTMENT

216B BOON LAY AVENUE, SINGAPORE

Having big open living space in an apartment has always been a dream of many people. To be able to create an interacting space that serves both aesthetic and functional uses are what once thought to be difficult, especially taking into account the size of local HDB flat sizes.

The apartment, situated in the west side of Singapore, features a monochrome themed 4-room apartment with an open concept kitchen that combines both the living and kitchen space.

Before & after space planning of layout.

The floor plan of the apartment haven’t been changed much. With a slight alteration of the kitchen layout, not opting in for the option of a wall, it allows the kitchen counter to flow seamlessly into the original intended dining area. By doing this, it visually enhance how it looks and feels to the spaciousness of the living space.

This layout enables natural light to penetrate into the apartment, adding a sense of warmth and vibrancy to heart of the kitchen.

For the kitchen, EDL Fenix NTM range laminate was used as the cabinets’ finishing for their functional use of anti-scratch and anti-fingerprint features. A contrasting laminate, EDL Bianco Carrara-Matt was chosen to elevate the sharp contrasting color of black and white while providing a textured finishing to the overall plain but sleek finishing of the kitchen.

With integration of IKEA’s RIMFORSA series, it allows the owner to organize their kitchen easily while saving counter top space. An additional spice rack was included to allow easy access of condiments while the user is using the kitchen.

Keeping to the theme of simplicity and monochrome, only the essentials to the owners are displayed in the bathroom. Additions of racks and mirror ledges allow neat display of necessities while leaving them readily available for use. Shampoo ledges are created with a shower feature wall to blend in a feature piece with functional uses.

Doors and skirting of flooring were painted white to create a consistent theme throughout the whole house.

Made for the lifestyle of the couple, an open wardrobe with a dresser mirror integrated allows quick usage of the wardrobe.

Despite featuring many loose pieces of furniture in the apartment, many were actually custom made to fit into overall theme of the house. Examples are the TV console, coffee table and side tables.
